What Chance Do I Have When Selling My Home on Craigslist?
Most people use Craigslist as a means of selling items that they no longer need, but what if you wanted to sell your home? Would it be just as beneficial? Well, it can be! But there are some critical elements of your ad that you have to get just right.
What Chance Do I Have When Selling My Home on Craigslist?
Headline
Your headline is the most important part of your ad. Why? 8 out of 10 people will read the headline of a piece of website content, but only 2 of those 10 will go on to read the rest. In addition, 6 of 10 social media users who share a link never actually read the article whose link they shared.
You will be competing with dozens or even hundreds of other listings in your area. Your headline should be captivating but also truthful – Your home must live up to the expectations set by your ad. Your headline will include the price of your home and the number of bedrooms. Other than that you have little wiggle room to be creative. One effective tactic is to use numbers, especially odd numbers. Example: “3 Reasons Why This 4BR Lakefront Home Is Perfect For You”.
Body
Your body should be simple and brief, but this is also where your headline comes full circle. You will need to make good on all the promises you hinted at in your headline. Make sure you’re including relevant keywords that your demographic may be searching for. Also, be sure that you triple check your body for grammatical and spelling errors. An ad with multiple grammatical errors is extremely off-putting and is usually perceived as a “scam ad”, so be very thorough in your proofreading.
Pictures
Often, when prospective buyers search Craigslist for homes, they will limit their search to show only properties that contain images. If you do not include pictures, you are greatly limiting the number of potential applicants who will view your property. People are visual. They want to get an idea of what the property looks like before they commit the time to go and physically look at it.
Take pictures of entire rooms or areas, not of single items or appliances. If an appliance, say, a refrigerator, has been recently updated, you can include that fact in the body of the ad copy.
Selling your home on craigslist is a real possibility if done right. But if on the other hand, you don’t want to bother with all that after all, we have a much easier solution for you.
